Surveyor remanded for defrauding trader

Accra (Greater  Accra) 1 March 2000

A surveyor has been remanded in prison custody by an Accra circuit tribunal for defrauding a trader of 10.2 million cedis under the pretext of selling a plot of land to her.

Daniel Tetteh pleaded not guilty. His two accomplices, who are his relatives, Odartey Lamptey, a driver, and Joseph Lante-Jahara, a pensioner, also pleaded not guilty to a charge of abetment of crime and are each on a 10-million-cedi bail.

All three accused persons are to re-appear on Wednesday, 8 March.

The tribunal chaired by Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson Yebuah issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Eddie Odartey Lamptey, the third accomplice, who is on the run.

The Tribunal heard that one Mrs. Christiana Oppong  wanted a plot of land to buy on behalf of her children who live abroad.

A witness in the case introduced Mrs. Oppong to Tetteh as someone who could be of assistance.

According to the prosecution, Tetteh managed to secure two plots of land for the complainant but when she attempted to develop them, two claimants confronted her one after the other claiming ownership.

Chief Inspector Antwi said when the accused promised to secure a third plot for Mrs Oppong she rejected the offer and reported the matter to the Police.

Tetteh was arrested and upon interrogation he mentioned the three relatives as his accomplices.
