Soccer - Hearts beat Satellites 3-2 in friendly

Accra (Greater Accra) 29 March

Champion club, Accra Hearts of Oak beat Ghana's Under -20 football team, Black Satellites 3-2 in their friendly football match played at the Accra Sports stadium on Friday.

Looking virtually transformed, Satellites, who are preparing for the World Under 20 Youth soccer championship in Nigeria next month, got the opening goal in the second minute through centre forward Peter Ofori-Quaye.

Hearts rallied up and snatched the equaliser three minutes later when a pass meant for goalkeeper Sam Adjei was intercepted by Hearts centre forward Ishmael Addo.

Satellites nearly went ahead in the 12th minute but midfielder Laryea Kingston's shot hit the cross bar but the rebound was wasted.

In the 19th minute, Hearts was awarded a penalty when right winger Winfred Dormon was brought down in the box but Ishmael Addo wasted it.

Left winger Mohammed Abdallah restored Satellites lead in the 28th minute when his low grounder beat goalkeeper Eben Dida. Satellites brought in goalkeeper Osei Boateng for Sam Adjei in the 57th minute.

In the 78th minute, Hearts substitute Solomon Allan was shown the red card for dissent and Hearts wasted another penalty three minutes later when substitute James Zoglo's shot was saved by goalkeeper Boateng. Addo again was on hand to score Hearts second goal in the 84th minute but Satellites piled on the pressure to snatch the equaliser in the 86th minute.

Soccer-Faisal shock Okwawu 2-0

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 29 March

King Faisal beat Okwawu United 2-0 in their sixth-week ABC Golden Lager Premier football league match played at the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Full back Dada Kwadwo put Faisal ahead in the 12th minute when he towered above the defence to head into the net a free-kick taken outside the "18" by right half back Isaac Owusu. The goal took the steam out of Okwawu, who failed to put up any resistance as Faisal dictated the pace but the homesters failed to increase their lead when inside left Kwadwo Anane shot off target in the 22nd minute.

Anane atoned for his mistake and made it 2-0 in the 30th minute. The ball, which was floated from the right, bounced off the chest of goalkeeper Mouza Mono for unmarked Anane to tap it into the net.

The Okwawu boys, thinking Anane scored from an offside position, rushed on referee P.S. Okrah of Accra and protest against the goal but to no avail. Okwawu's inside left Kwasi Asante wasted two scoring chances when he shot wide from close range in the 35th minute and headed over the bar as Faisal were put under pressure in the 47th minute.

Faisal assumed control of the game putting pressure on Okwawu's defence but they wasted all the scoring chances.

The two teams had to play with 10 players apiece when the referee red carded Nii Ayi Tetteh of Okwawu in the 74th minute and substitute Kwabena Poku of Faisal in the 80th minute.

Okwawu staged a last-minute rally but they could not break through the defence of Faisal.

Ghapoha - Hasaacas draw

Tema: Ghapoha F/C drew 0-0 with visiting Sekondi Hasaacas in their match played at the Tema Sports Stadium at the weekend.

Determined to put the smiles back into the faces of their fans, Ghapoha, who had suffered two huge defeats in one week losing to All Blacks 4-0 and Dawu 5-1, took control of the game after Hasaacas had taken the kick off but their attackers were jittery up front.

With veteran Kofi Abbrey spearheading the attack, Hasaacas came into the picture but centre forward Kingsley Kwarteng missed a golden chance in the 22nd minute.

Ghapoha launched a last-minute onslaught but the defenders of Hasaacas, Yaw Serbeh, Fuseini Adams and Issah Yusif thwarted all their attempts at goal.

Hearts' left winger Robert Saba gave way to Desmond Amoah in the 63th minute while the visitors replaced Olo Marcelino with Ekang Casimiro a minute later.
