Kumasi
(Ashanti Region) 20 June 2001
A sports
enthusiast in Kumasi said on Tuesday that Mr Ben Koufie should be elected as
the Chairman of the Ghana Fotball Association because he is an experienced
soccer administrator and a distinguished football coach.
He pointed
out that Mr Koufie had earned a high reputation as a coach in both anglophone
and francophone countries with outstanding successes and was the best person
for the job.
Odehye Nana
Kofi Tabi who was speaking to the GNA Sports in Kumasi said the nation needs an
experienced and matured person to head the GFA.
Mr Koufie
is vying for the post with Abedi Pele Ayew, one of the most celebrated soccer
stars Ghana has ever had.
Odehye Tabi
said Ghana has lost her position as a leading sports nation in Africa and one
of the most respectable countries in the world due to mismanagement of sports.
He stressed
that taxpayers cannot continue to waste their resources on sports without
anything fruitful coming to the nation.
The GFA
chairman's seat is the hottest in the country, next to the seat of the
President, because like Brazil, Ghana does not play with sporting
activities," he stressed.
