Virgin Island Minister visits National Theatre

Accra (Greater Accra) 13 June 2001

The Chief Minister of Communication and Works of British Virgin Island, Mr Albin Christopher on Tuesday described Ghana as the "citadel of cultural excellence" in Africa.

A statement issued in Accra by the National Theatre said Mr Christopher, who is also the leader of the visiting British Virgin Island Parliamentary delegation, said this when the group visited the National Theatre.

The delegation was treated to Takai, a traditional dance of the Dagombas and a sketch of MUSU, which reminded them of how their forefathers suffered during the slave trade.

Mr Christopher said: "This is our first visit, but what we have seen is an indication that Ghana is indeed the home of the Blackman."

Ms Eileen Parsons, a member of the delegation, described the National Theatre as "the undisputed centre of culture and artistic activity in the country."

Professor Kombla Amoaku, Executive Director of the National Theatre said the theatre is looking forward to a healthy collaboration in the fields of arts and culture between the two countries.

Two videotapes of MUSU were presented to the delegation.
