The Matches - Faisal whitewash White Eagles

Kumasi (Ashanti Region)

King Faisal on Saturday thrashed first division side White Eagles 3-0 in their one-sixteenth F.A knockout football match played in an almost empty Kumasi Sports Stadium.

Faisal led 2-0 at the end of the first half through goals scored by Kwabena Opoku and Joe Agyemang in the 12th and 15th minutes respectively.

In the second half White Eagles tried to redeem the tally but the ironclad defence of Faisal made up of Iddrisu Yahaya, Samuel Thompson, Seth Opoku and Nii Nanka Bruce warded off all the dangerous moves.

A last minute onslaught by Faisal saw Agyemang making it 3-0 for the monarchs in the 85th minute.

Hasaacas lick Vipers

Cape Coast (Central Region)

Sekondi Hasaacas beat Cape Coast Vernomous Vipers 1-0 in their ABC/FA knockout match played at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday.

It was a 35th minute strike by Issah Alhassan after he rounded up three defenders and flicked one past goalkeeper Akyempim Chabala in goal for Vipers that won the day for the Hasmal boys.

Real Tamale United secured a similar win, also registered on the 35th minute mark, over Tamale Real Republicans in a local derby honoured at the Tamale Kaladan Park.

Voradep dent Olympics

Ho (Volta Region)

The ghost of Professor Mawuse Dake played and Ho Voradep, the club he founded, upturned the form-guide of Accra Great Olympics to ditch them a 1-0 victory in their match played at the Ho Sports Stadium.

The goal was scored on the dead of full time by centre foward, Patrick Ganaku to defuse any extra time in the tightly fought game.

Ganaku squeezed the ball through a cluster of legs after a powerful shot by Felix Gbadegbe, which deflected off the body of Oly's central defender, Aziz Ansah.

In another development, Ghapoha F/C qualified for the one-eighth stage of the competition when they beat Afienya United 3-0 in their match played at the Tema Sports Stadium.

Inside left Sampson Ocran opened the scores for Ghapoha in the 41st minute when his low grounder beat goalkeeper John Adjetey.

Afienya quickly warmed up into the game forcing Ghapoha to concede two corner kicks in the 42nd and 44th minutes but wasted both.

Ghapoha completely seized control of the game after the recess scoring two quick goals in the 66th and 67th minutes through right- half-back Alex  Awuah and  right winger Kwabena Boateng to seal the doom of Afienya.

Kotoko humbles Amansie

Kumasi (Ashanti Region

Kumasi Asante Kotoko called-off the bluff of Amansie United when they whacked the first division club 4-1 in the one-sixteenth national knockout match at the Kumasi sports stadium.

Kotoko had to wait for over 41 minutes before scoring the leader as Amansie, who had vowed to beat Kotoko stood gallantly to ward off the menacing moves of their much experienced opponents.

Adu Poku latched onto a pass and ran along the left flank, squeezing the ball in an acute angle as goalkeeper Abubakar Fuseini moved to narrow the gap.

Kotoko had the game well in hand, but Amansie occasionally baffled them with crisp and accurate passes even though inexperience robbed them of good finishing.

Substitute Micheal Osei scored the second goal with a glancing header to a cross by Stephen Oduro in the 66th minute while Stephen Oduro raised the score to 3-0 in the 69th minute when Adu Poku teased the substitute goalkeeper Jerry Fuseini out of the post.

Amansie beat down the score to 3-1 in the 73rd minute when substitute Assa Igando beat goalkeeper Osei Boateng of Kotoko with a close-range shot.

Lawrence Adjei put Amansie beyond recovery with the fourth goal in the 85th minute after Adu Poku had rounded the defence and placed the ball in his path.

At the Prempeh College park also in Kumasi, Okwawu United beat Queen's Park Rangers (QPR) of Kumasi 7-6 on penalties in their knock-out match.

The two teams settled for a 1-1 draw at full-time. Noble Owusu put QPR ahead in the 66th minute in a goalmouth melee but Okwawu equalised in the 78th minute through a header by Isaac Asante.  In the penalty shoot-out, Okwawu scored six as against five by QPR.

Maxbees shock Power

Koforidua (Eastern Region)

Nathan Quarshie scored first for Power through a spot kick in the 21st minute. In the 33rd minute James Armah-Quaye of Power was shown the red card for dangerous play.

Both teams made two changes in the second half, but it was Maxbees who took advantage of their numerical strength to equalise in the 79th minute through Samuel Frimpong with a header.

Maxbees mounted a last minute pressure on the home team but could not utilise the chances that came their way.

During the penalties, Maxbees converted three as against one by Power. At Dawu, Dawu Youngsters beat Odupong Heroes 3-0. Abdulai Tahiru opened the scores for Dawu in the second minute through a spot kick while Awudu Adama (55th) and Samuel Tono (80th) completed the rout.

At Sunyani, Bofoakwa Tano thrashed visiting Dormaa-Ahenkro division one side, Aduana Stars 3-0 in their match played at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

All the goals were scored in the second half, after a dull first session during which the few spectators had nothing to cheer about.

Captain Kwame Antwi hit the back of the net with a sizzling shot to give his side the opening goal in the 55th minute.

Almost immediately after the goal, Aduana Stars' captain Opoku Sampene had the chance to level up but Goalkeeper Alhassan Mohammed denied him with a dramatic save.

In the 74th, minute inside-left Anthony Mintah increased Bofoakwa's lead to two while

substitute Kwasi Kyere sealed the doom of the visitors with another goal in the 76th minute.

Hearts ride over Youngsters

Accra (Greater Accra)

Defending Knockout Champions, Accra Hearts of Oak played with nearly a second string team but managed a 2-0 victory over Okwawu Youngsters at the Accra Sports Stadium to move into the one-eighth stage of the competition.

Both goals were scored in the second half through Kenneth Sarpong and Stephen Tetteh in the 60th and 90th minutes respectively.

Kenneth fired a powerful shot against the right upright after receiving a pass from Yaw Sakyi, Youngsters central defender, Shehu Salu managed to clear the ball but referee John Akposu whistled for a goal after consulting his first assistant, Emmanuel Aklade.

Hearts sent the game beyond redemption when substitute, Stephen Tetteh, tapped in a Kenneth Sarpong's cross on the nick of full time, to send their handful of supporters jubilating.
