Coca-Cola sponsors Olympic Day Run

Accra (Greater Accra) 21 June 2000

 

Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Limited has donated items worth 22 million cedis to the Ghana Olympic Committee  (GOC) for this year's Olympic Day Run.

The items are made up of 3,000 T-shirts, six giant banners and 180 crates of assorted Coca-Cola minerals.

Mr. Solomon G. Addai, the Marketing Manager of the company said it is the hope of Coca-Cola that this year's event will be a major success in terms of participation and organisation.

He said Coca-Cola is proud to be associated with the Olympic Day Run and pledged his company's continued support for the fiesta.

The items were received on behalf of the GOC by Dr. Deborah B. Gebagee, the second vice chairman of the committee.

Dr. Gebagee, who is also the Director of Health Services at Tema expressed her profound gratitude to Coca-Cola and said the company has been sponsoring many Olympic related events across the globe since the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games and called on other corporate organisations to emulate their example.

On the home front, the second vice chairman said Coca-Cola has shouldered responsibility for the event since 1984.

She lauded the contribution of Coca-Cola to sports development and tasked them to maintain their dignified social responsibility function.
