Man defrauds pensioner of twelve million cedis

Accra (Greater Accra) 07 June 2000

A car dealer who defrauded a pensioner of 12 million cedis and was charged with fraudulent breach of trust, has been granted a six million-cedi bail by an Accra Circuit Tribunal presided by Justice Charles Quist.

The Tribunal heard that in 1998, Mr. James Benjamin Owusu, a pensioner gave his home used Nissan Urvan Bus to the accused, Patrick Sefah, a 47- year old car dealer to sell for him.

It was agreed between Owusu and Sefah that the vehicle be sold at 12 million cedis.

According to the prosecution, the Sefah later told Mr. Owusu that the vehicle had been sold at 12 million cedis to a buyer who was making payments in bits and promised to hand over the total amount when payment was completed.

However, Sefah refused to pay the money after persistent demands and a complaint was made to the police.

The accused admitted the offence in his cautioned statement and was charged accordingly after investigations.
