Man before court for stealing from girlfriend's father

Accra (Greater Accra) 25 June '99

Clement Anani Gbedemah, a self-styled driver, who broke into the room of his girlfriend's father and made away with his video deck, on Thursday, appeared before a circuit tribunal in Accra charged with stealing.

Chief Inspector Kwame Acheampong, described Gbedemah, as a "notorious criminal", who is yet to face eight additional charges including fraud, assault, aiding and abetting.

The tribunal chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson Yeboah heard that the complainant, Mr Joseph Aryeetey, is a driver, who lives at Akweteyman in Accra and that Gbedemah, who is unemployed is a boyfriend of his daughter.

On November nine, last year, Gbedemah broke into Mr Aryeetey's room and stole his video deck valued at 1.2 million cedis. The video deck has since been retrieved, according to the prosecution.

Gbedemah, 26, pleaded not guilty and was granted five million cedis bail with one surety, to re-appear on July 20.
