Emasa rural bank makes profit

Awutu-Bontrase (Central Region) 21 June '99

The Awutu-Emasa Rural Bank has within the past four years mobilised savings totalling 1.2 billion cedis and made a net profit of 85 million cedis.

The bank has initiated a scheme under which it is assisting its customers to put up their own houses, meet educational requirements and procure furniture, refrigerators and television sets.

Mr Paul Obeng, the manager, told teachers rally at Awutu Bontrase on Saturday, when he spoke on "the role of rural banks towards the realisation of the objectives of the educational reforms programme".

Mr Obeng, a former professional teacher, said the rural banking concept could improve the life of people in the rural communities.

He therefore advised teachers and other workers in the rural areas to patronise the rural banks to enable them derive maximum benefits from their operations.
