South Africa to participate in PANAFEST

Accra (Greater Accra), 17th June 99 -

The Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology of South Africa on Wednesday announced the composition of its delegation to participate in the PANAFEST '99, scheduled for July 30 to August eight in Accra, Cape Coast and Elmina.

A statement from the Executive Secretary of PANAFEST Foundation, Mr S. S. Annobil said the delegation would include two traditional chiefs. They would participate in the grand durbar of chiefs to be held in Cape Coast on July 31.

Among the delegation would be the Indlovu Link Youth Cultural Troupe and some South African musical groups.

Two officials, Mr Kirem Thathiah from Vaal Technikon and Mrs. Sharon Katz of the Peace Train, based at the University of Ghana, would present papers related to the theme of the festival, which is, ''Youth: The Agenda For The Next Millennium''.

Another group billed to participate in the celebration of African Fabrics and Colours is the Tsonga Textile Group.

The statement said efforts are being made to secure sponsorship from corporate bodies for two reputable music celebrities from South Africa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Lucky Dube, to perform at PANAFEST '99.
