Starlets arrive today after conquering Africa one more time

Accra (Greater Accra), 3rd June '99 -

The national under-17 soccer team, the Black Starlets, winners of the just-ended Africa U-17 soccer championship in Guinea, arrive home on Thursday, June three.

A statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports issued in Accra on Wednesday, said the team will arrive at 3.30 pm and called on all sports-loving people to throng the Kotoka International Airport to welcome them.

The statement said the team will be paraded through some principal streets of Accra and will end up at the Independence Square.

It congratulated the players and their handlers for winning the two-week tournament.

"This glamorous victory which comes after the one by the Black Satellites in Accra and the wonderful performance in Kaduna, gives a signal of the many good things that lie ahead for Ghana sports in the days ahead", the statement said.

It assured the team of the Ministry's readiness to assist the team in their preparation to win the covetous trophy at the FIFA World U-17 tournament in New Zealand in November.
