All-Share Index moves up but trading remains unimpressive

 

Accra (Greater Accra) 20 July 2002-The market index of the Accra bourse closed weekend trading higher but activities remained unimpressive despite four capital appreciations. The Index gained 1.54 points to close the week up at 1,247.56 points from 1,246.02 points. It gained only 0.02 points at the last trading session.

 

Four equities rallied to register appreciable gains but this could not make any impressive impact on the Index in the face of five cedis loss by Ghana

Commercial Bank (GCB), the second heavily capitalised equity on the bourse.

Shares traded closed higher at 74,900 up from 49,500.

 

In the broader market, there were five price changes -four positive and the other negative. UNIL gained 51 cedis to close trading at 3,851 cedis, Fan Milk was up eight cedis at 1,625 cedis, British American Tobacco went up five cedis at 935 and CFAO appreciated two cedis at 65 cedis.

 

The only loser was Ghana Commercial Bank, which shed five cedis to end 3,260 cedis. Market capitalisation closed higher at 4,737.88 billion cedis.
