Nana Dankwabrafo was properly elected - Royal

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 24 July 2001

Mr Kwabena Boateng, a royal of the Donyina Dankwabrafo Bretuo Family, has said that Nana Osei Dankwabrafo II, Donyinahene was properly elected and enstooled in accordance with Asante custom, usage and tradition.

He said the Queenmother, Nana Akosua Gyamfuaa Boahemaa selected him in

October 1996 and he was enstooled as Donyinahene before swearing the oath of allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II in March 1997.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Boateng said when Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, ascended the Golden Stool, Nana Dankwabrafo renewed the oath of allegiance.

He said in view of this it would be naive for anybody to impute that Nana

Dankwabrafo was imposed on the people and for that matter, he was not being given the due recognition by the people.

Mr Martin Osei, a Spokesman for the citizens of Donyina has petitioned

Otumfuo Osei Tutu against the position of Nana Dankwabrafo.

In a reaction to the petition to the Asantehene, Mr Boateng said the Mr Osei was not a royal of the Dankwabrafo Stool though he stays at Donyina and belongs to the Otumfuo Nsumankwaa Nnwontofuo Group.

Mr Boateng said the statement by Mr Osei was derogatory and portrays the

people of Donyina in the bad light.

"The said Kwadwo Addo Fordwour, who was mentioned as Abusuapanin is also not a royal of the Dankwabrafo Stool but a great-grandson of Opanin Kwasi Wiafe alias Akwasi Towuo and also the great-grandson of Adwoa Agyapomaa, who was Nana Akwasi Wiafe's wife.

"I am appealing to the Asantehene to use his good offices to look into the protracted chieftaincy dispute to let the whole world know who are the royals of Dankwabrafo Stool of Donyina and the domestic members of the family to bring peace before the burial and final funeral rites of the late Queenmother".
