Dawu
(Eastern Region) 19 July 2001
Dawu
Youngsters on Wednesday suffered their first home defeat in this year's Star
Premier league when they lost 0-1 to Liberty Professionals.
Dawu who
played the match without some of their
regular players including Awudu Adama
who is leading the goal table dominated the first half of the exchanges
but failed to capitalise on their advantage till the end of the first half.
Liberty
Professionals resumed the second half more strongly and in the 53rd
minute their striker Albert Batsa received a pass in the goal area of Dawu and
blasted the ball into the net for the only goal of the match.
The Liberty
boys content with the lone goal lead defended it till the final whistle.
Some of the
Dawu supporters who could not control their emotions ventured their
disappointment on some of their players whom they felt did not put in much
efforts to prevent their disgrace at home.

Sunyani
(Brong Ahafo Region) 19 July 2001
Bofoakwa
Tano whalloped visiting Maxbees 3-0 in their match at the Suyani Coronation
Park.
After
wasting a 10th minute chance, John Kudjoe atoned for his earlier miss, when he
utilised a lob from Anthony Mintah to open the scores in the 20th minute.
The visitors
led by Asamoah Dzifa, ably assisted by team mate Willie Hammond, went into
attack and nearly got the equaliser in the 39th minute but Burt Plange's long
range effort was beautifully saved by goalkeeper Mohammed Alhassan.
John Kudjoe
increased the tally to two in the 70th minute with a terrific strike which
Maxbees' goalie Sammy Martey, had no answer to.
Substitute
Ben Kusi made it three in the 87th minute.
And at
Berekum RTU won 1-0 against Arsenals.

Adsansiman held Accra Hearts of Oak to a goalless draw in their match played at
the Len Clay Sports Stadium.
Adansiman,
who went into the game as underdogs put up a spirited performance and outplayed
the African champions in all departments, for the greater part of the game.
In the
first half, Hearts created two good chances but Ishmael Addo and Charles Taylor
hit the cross bar on each occasion.
The second
half saw a revamped Adansiman side, which mesmerised Hearts but failed to
score.

Sekondi
(Western Region) 19 July 2001
Sekondi
Hasaacas on Wednesday established their superiority over Tema Ghapoha by
defeating them by a lone goal in the premier league match.
The only
goal of the match was scored in the 17th minute through Frank Turkson and the
victory has moved Hasaacas two steps up to the eighth spot on 13 points.
The game,
which started on a dull note, gained some momentum during the second as both teams marshalled their technical ideas
yet neither Ghapoha nor Hasaacas could score any more goals.
Superb
scoring chances that came the way of both teams were wasted and this sent the
spectators booing and jeering at the players.
The
officials who were to handle the game, did not turn up and as such
Sekondi-Takoradi based referees handled the match.
Nana Musah,
the match commissioner told the GNA Sports that the absence of the match
officials could mean they got the message to officiate late or were not
informed at all.
In another
development, Tahiru Braimah a former player of Accra Great Olympics, but now
with Tema Ghapoha, was presented with a certificate from SKY Power FM, a
Takoradi radio station as part of the stations Top 20 Footballers for the 2000
season.

Kotoko pick another three at Faisal's expense
Kumasi
(Ashanti Region) 19 - 07 - 2001
League
leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat King Faisal 1-0 to extend their lead on the
Star premier league table to five points after their tenth week match played at
the Kumasi sports stadium on Wednesday.
Kotoko,
fought hard to get the only goal in the 74th minute through substitute Joe
Okyere from a Joe Louis pass.
The game
started with high tempers following the arrest of Alhaji Kamil Abdallah, the
chairman of Faisal after a confrontation with a police Inspector.
Alhaji
Grunsha, chairman of Faisal who wanted his boys to boycott the match because of
the initial confusion but had to rescind his decision for the match to kick-off
late.
The tension
in the match got the better part of the both sets of players as they resorted
to rough play earning Emmanuel Ampiah a red card in the 36th minute.
Playing
with 10 men, Faisal defence had to ward off a series of onslaughts from the
fast attackers of Kotoko with young goalkeeper Samuel Okyere being called upon
to make dramatic saves.
The defeat,
move down Faisal to the eleventh position with a difficult game in hand against
Obuasi Goldfields.
