Mother pleads to Musician to accept children

Mampong (Ashanti Region) 09 July 2001

Miss Vida Amoah, 25, an unemployed senior secondary school graduate, has appealed to a renowned rap musician, Mr Mike Elliot Asiamah, 26, alias "Obrafoo" to accept responsibility as the father of her three-year-old twin boys.

Making the appeal through the Ghana News Agency at Mampong, where Miss Asiamah has sent the boys, she said Obrafoo has continuously denied being the biological father of the children.

She said she was ready to present the boys for a paternity test to prove whether or not Obrafoo was the father of the children.

Miss Asiamah said she stayed close to Obrafoo at Taifa in Accra, where she fell in love with the musician, claiming that she became pregnant six months after the relationship and subsequently gave birth to the twin boys on March 3, 1998 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Vida also claimed that Obrafoo, who had then started his musical career, wanted her to abort the pregnancy but later dropped the idea because he could not afford the cost.

She said Obrafoo abandoned her four months into her pregnancy, adding that her delivery through caesarean section could not make her elicit the sympathy of the musician.

According to Vida, her parents could not support her upkeep and that of the children due to cost of living in Accra and she was, therefore, forced to send the children to her hometown, Asante-Mampong.

Almost near to tears, Vida said Obrafoo was now in a position to look after the children. Obrafoo was not available for comment.
