(Nb. The GFA Appeals Committee sat on Kumasi Asante Kotoko versus Accra Great Olympics issue and declared Kotoko not guilty in their 0-0 drawn match. Olympics had protested against Kotoko's Burkinabe import, Cambou Clovis and Togolese Frank Atsou for playing with expired papers. The match was declared valid and the results made to stay. Kotoko therefore became richer by four points while Olympics lost two points and three goals that had been awarded them, reducing their wins to four.

Also Accra Great Olympics, with four wins and five draws suffered a deduction of three points from their build up for failing to honour an outstanding match against King Faisal who were credited with the points.  The match between Asuom Kwaebibirem and Koforidua Power F/C was late kick off. The Bofoakwa versus Hearts match that was declared outstanding due to Hearts' participation in the CAF Champions League is fixed for Wednesday 26th July at the Sunyani).

Kotoko beat Goldfields 1-0

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 24 July 2000

Kumasi Asante Kotoko scored a not-too-impressive lone goal victory over Obuasi Goldfields in their premier football league match played at the Kumasi sports stadium on Sunday.

Kotoko hit by goal famine, were expected to win handsomely in this match in which they outplayed their opponents but lacked the knack to convert the numerous chances they created.

Micheal Osei began the goal-wasting spree as he hit the side net from close-range after he has outrun their opponent's defence in a swift-counter attack in the 15th minute.

Kotoko forced three successive corner-kicks in the 16th, 17th and 18th minutes during which Goldfields were put under sustained pressure but midfielder, Godwin Ablordey, lobbed the ball over the ball.

After Kotoko had wasted their fourth corner-kick in the 22nd minute, overlapping central defender Mark (Fish) Ofori took a long shot, which missed the side-post narrowly in the 23rd minute.

Kotoko's persistent attacks paid off well when speedster Lawrence Adjei ran into a pass by Micheal Osei, who slipped through an offside trap, and put the ball beyond the reach of Constant Mantey in the 27th minute.

Kotoko, having taken the lead and backed by their vociferous fans attacked in bursts, looking for a goal haul but good defensive work by the miners' defence kept the fabulous boys at bay.

In the 42nd minute, Godwin Ablordey broke loose but could not find the target as goalkeeper Mantey narrowed the angle.

Both sides made two changes in the second half to beef up their attacks, but it was Kotoko who nearly increased the score in the 68th minute but goalkeeper Mantey saved a point-blank shot by Lawrence Adjei.

Liberty beat Dwarfs

Accra (Greater Accra) 24 July 2000

Liberty Professionals put up an impressive performance to redeem their image from a poor second round showing, when they beat visiting Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1 in the 19th week of the ABC Premier league match played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Albert Neequaye and substitute, Kwame Frimpong scored Liberty's goals in the ninth and 74th minute, respectively.

Surprisingly, Dwarfs were the first to find the net in the sixth minute through Rashid Iddi.

The Liberty lads, who lost 2-0 to Okwawu United at the Nkawkaw Park last on Sunday, were bent on venting their spleen on the visitors, who also fought very hard.

Disaster struck Dwarfs, spotting their red jerseys, when their dependable Stephen Owusu, who has put a spark in the game, was given a red card by referee John B. K. Akposu for gross indiscipline in the 33rd minute.

Okwawu stun Gt. Olympics

Tema (Greater Accra) 24 July 2000

Visiting Okwawu United beat Accra Great Olympics 2-1 in their match played at the Tema SportsStaddium.

The game, which started on a fast note, saw Okwawu forcing Olympics to concede two cornerkicks in the fifth and seventh minutes but wasted both chances.

Okwawu continued the pressure on their opponents and succeeded in scoring the first goal in the 30th minute through inside left Ernest Boateng.

With their pride punctured, Olympics accepted the challenge and nearly equalised in the 34th minute but striker Billy Sulley's grounder was saved by goalkeeper Joseph Aryeetey.

Left-full-back John Maclean scored the second goal for Okwawu when his free-kick went straight into the net in the, 49th minute.

Olympics changed their pattern of play from then and managed to score a goal in the 76th minute through substitute Michael Asante.

Dawu hammer B.A.

Dawu (Eastern Region) 24 July 2000

Dawu Youngsters beat visiting B A United 2-0 in an ABC Premier league match played at Dawu on Sunday.

Dawu took the lead in the 26th minute through inside left Awudu Adama who cracked home a free-kick from just outside the centre circle, giving the entire BA united defensive set up no chance at all.

After the first goal the B.A boys took control of the mid-field and dictated the pace of the game but were denied credit by Dawu defenders who used the offside trap effectively.

Earlier in the 19th minute, the visitors had a seater, which was wasted by Kasola Da Costa.

In the second half, substitude Samuel Tetteh, partnered Asibi Nurudeen to seize the mid-field from the Sunyani boys, thereby dictating the pace of the game.

It came as no surprise when Adama widened Dawu's lead to two with a fantastic goal in the 67th minute.

Adama collected a pass in mid field, sprinted away from his marker, dummied Samson Tetteh in goal for BA and flicked the ball gently into the net.

Dawu maitained their dominace after the second goal but failed to increase the tally until full time.

RTU in a slim win

Tamale (Northern Region) 24 July 2000

Real Tamale United (RTU) brought back the smiles to their fanatical supporters when they managed a hard fought 1-0 win over visiting King Faisal in their ABC premier league match.

It was RTU who kicked off on the orders of FIFA referee E.K. Okoampah but soon lost the ball as the visitors resorted to hard tackles with the aim of erasing the first round loss of 2-0 at their favourite home grounds.

Outside left Alfa Potobauri of RTU who was a constant worry to the King Faisal defenders nearly got the opener in the early minutes of the game.

Potobouri however helped RTU to get the match winner when he was brought down in the 18 of the visitors.

Midfielder Ibrahim Musah made no mistake with his kick when he displaced Nicholas Opoku Ware for the only goal of the match in the 30th minute. Both teams made two changes each but could not find each others nets.
