Two jailed for stealing

Wa (Upper West) 12 July 2000

The Wa circuit court has sentenced two persons to three years' imprisonment for stealing a gari processing motor-engine, estimated at 20 million cedis.

The two persons, Ernest Tuonaa and Philip Bungbille both masons from Kateo pleaded guilty to three charges of conspiracy to steal, unlawful entry and stealing the property of Glorious Assemblies Church, at Keteo in the Upper West Region.

The court presided over by Mr Gibson Adzagli had heard that the Glorious Assemblies church on June 30 installed a gari-processing machine for its members.

The next day the church members returned to the site only to find out that the room had been broken into and the motor of the machine taken away.

They therefore made a report to the police who investigated and finally arrested the two.

When the two were arrested they confessed and led the police to an uncompleted building where they dug out the machine from the ground.
