Bibiani (Western Region) 12 July

The Ashanti Goldfields Bibiani
Limited (AGBL) produced approximately 21,000 ounces of gold, which is more than
target for the first half of the year.
The company also achieved two
million injury-free man-hours and thus won the Ashanti Goldfields Company (AGC)
Chief Executive's Safety award for 1999.
Mr Daniel Owiredu, Managing
Director of AGBL, told newsmen at Bibiani that a vigorous exploration is being
undertaken to commence underground operations to
extend the life span of the mine.
The company's presence had brought
about positive socio-economic transformation in the lives of the people, he
said, adding however that a few bad nuts took the law into
their hands to destroy property
worth about a billion cedis.
Mr Owiredu said the company had
established two major farms at Bibiani and Anhwiaso and has recruited 70
youths.
He commended the workers of the
company for their support to enabled them to win the safety award and said this
should spur them on to win more laurels for the company in the years ahead.
