Security Guard remanded for stealing
Madina (Greater Accra) 11 July
2000
Madina police have arrested three
members of the King Jesus Evangelical Ministry for allegedly blackmailing the
founder of the church, Prophet Evangelist Emmanuel Kwaku Apraku.
They are Pastor Yaw Obiri, 26,
Peter Okyere, 27, and Kwadjo Agyei, 25, both prayer warriors.
They were accused of writing to
Prophet Apraku demanding 55 million cedis from him or risk a publication in the
newspapers detailing his alleged illegal sexual relationships with some female
members of the church.
The three were arrested following
a tip-off by a member of the church. Prophet Apraku told the Ghana News Agency
in an interview on Monday that the letter was calculated to destroy his
reputation and that of the church.
Meanwhile, a source at the Madina
Police Station told the GNA that the suspects would soon be put before court.

An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Monday remanded in custody Emmanuel Arhinful, security guard of the Electoral Commission, for allegedly stealing four boxes of camera films valued at 14.4 million cedis, the property of the Commission.
Arhinful, 46, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and stealing and will appear again on July 18.
The tribunal, chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson Yebuah, ordered that an arrest warrant be issued against, Amos Agyare, an accomplice, who is on the run.
According to the Prosecution, at about 21.30 hours on June 22, this year, one of the night watchmen at the Commission saw Arhinful carrying a metal ladder from one of the blocks to a store room on the same compound.
The watchman alerted another watchman on duty and the two of them saw Agyare, a labourer, at the Commission, removing some boxes containing camera films through the window of the store for Arhinful, who was standing on the ground floor.
When the watchmen confronted the accused persons, Agyare bolted but Arhinful was arrested and handed over to the police.
The management of the Commission later detected that 13 boxes of the films valued at 26.8 million cedis had been stolen earlier from the store.

An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Monday sentenced Adam Sheini, unemployed, to five years' imprisonment for using his deceased brother's certificate to seek employment in the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Sheini was also accused of using the same certificate for admission into the University of Cape Coast.
The tribunal, chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson Yebuah, ordered that the certificate, now in the possession of the prosecution, be sent to the West Africa Examination Council for record purposes.
Sheini, 32, also known as Alhassan, pleaded not guilty to stealing and deceiving a public officer.
The prosecution’s case was that the accused person is the younger brother of the late Mr Emmanuel Adam I. Sheini, who died on August 7, 1989.
After the death of Mr Sheini, the accused used his four-year Teacher's Certificate "A" to gain employment with the GES and later used the same certificate to gain admission into the University of Cape Coast in 1998 as a mature student to pursue a degree course in social studies but his performance at the level 200 was very poor and far below standard.
He was therefore withdrawn from the university but he went to the GES headquarters to inquire about his salary where he was apprehended and handed over to the police.
Investigations by the BNI indicated that the accused, through his fraudulent means, earned an unspecified amount of money as salary from the time he was appointed into the GES to March 2000.
