Accra (Greater Accra) 06 July 2000
Mr Yao Dzemefe, Director of
National Art Galleries of the National Commission of Culture (NCC), said the
Commission is to establish three major art galleries by the end of the year.
These would be the National
Gallery of Arts, which would be a collection of all aspects of arts, a National
Portrait Gallery to house the portrait of all personalities and a National
Child Art Gallery for the collection of works beneficial to children.
Mr Dzemefe disclosed this at the opening of the first National Exhibition of the Unknown Artist for the southern sector.
The two-week exhibition, which is under
the theme "Eyes Through the Third Millennium Threshold" is to help
empower artists economically and to bring them into the limelight for
international recognition. It is also to promote designers, handicraft
producers and pictorial photographers.
