Soccer-New gate fees for premier league matches

Accra (Greater Accra) 16 July ’99

The ministry of Youth and Sports has endorsed the special gate fees announced early this week in the Hearts-Olympics ABC Golden Lager premier football league match on Sunday.

The Ministry has also directed that the new fees should apply to all the remaining 15 matches at all centres.

The new fees are, Popular Stands-3,000 cedis, Osu Stands-5,000 cedis, Upper

Terrace-7,000 cedis, Wings-15,000 cedis and VIP Stands-20,000 cedis.

A statement issued by the ministry on Friday and signed by Mr Kofi Aggrey,

Public Relations Officer, said the new fees will, to some extent assist the clubs in their most recent resolution to improve on management and administration, particularly of players, to make the league more exciting.

The distribution of the gate proceeds in accordance with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) constitution are Home club-50 per cent, Away team club-25 per cent, GFA-12.5 per cent, Ghana League Clubs Association -2.5 per cent and the National Sports Council-10 per cent.

The statement said the clubs have always been the beneficiaries of the bulk of the gate proceeds with a rather insignificant percentage going to the NSC for the maintenance and management of facilities.

It said in the interest of the clubs and the league in general, the issue of complimentary tickets to the stadiums has ceased forthwith, and access to the VIP area will be restricted to the purchase of the requisite ticket.

"There shall not be free entries to the stadium even in the dying minutes of matches and fans without means of purchasing tickets are advised to keep away from the gates".

The statement said only vehicles with NSC car stickers will be allowed entry into the stadium and called on all media personnel who are interested in covering Sunday's match to contact the GFA for accreditation.
