Tolls (Amendment) Bill goes through consideration stage

Accra (Greater Accra) 8th July '99

Parliament on Wednesday took the Tolls (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to limit the categories of motor vehicles exempted from the payment of road tolls, through the consideration stage of passage.

The five-clause bill repeals the Tolls (Amendment) Law, 1984 (PNDCL 97) which hitherto extended exemption to 13 categories of vehicles, a situation considered a drain on the economy.

Vehicles belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces, Police Service, Fire Service, Prison Service, Government and Mission hospitals, health centres and health posts are exempted from payment of tolls.

Also exempted are vehicles of diplomatic missions, which have accorded such exemption to vehicles of Ghana's foreign missions.
