Vice President to honour millennium concert

Vice President John Evans Atta Mills, would be the guest of honour at a millennium musical concert to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of Mr Faisal Helwani, a musician and producer, in the Ghanaian music industry.

The concert, which would be under the auspices of the National Commission on Culture, is to be held at the National Theatre in Accra on July 16.

A news release by Bibini Music Productions, said the concert would feature the National Symphony Orchestra, Aberekyie Ba Kofi Sammy, the National Dance Company, Ghana Dance Ensemble and the GBC Orchestra.

Other artistes would be Nat Buckle, Akompi Guitar Band, Yasmeen and Waleed Helwani.

Five albums released on compact disc and cassettes produced by Mr Helwani would be launched at the concert and would be released world wide through the Internet and international distribution networks.

The albums would feature Onipa Nua II, Yasmeen Helwani, Aberekyie Ba Kofi Sammy, Akompi and Uhuru Highlife Classics.

Bibini Productions said Ghanaian airwaves would be drastically affected with genuine competition and promotion of Ghanaian music both locally and internationally after the concert.

He appealed to the media to join the crusade in eliminating mediocrity from the Ghanaian music industry.
