New date announced for Adakoya festival

Bolgatanga (Northern Region) 30 January 2001

 

The chiefs and people of the Bolgatanga Traditional Area, would now celebrate the annual Adakoya festival on February 10, instead of Monday, January 29, to enable the public to participate fully in the celebration.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bolgatanga, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Naba Johnson Awuni, said the Bolgatanga area is heterogeneous, adding that the new date is to enable particularly workers to participate.

Naba Awuni said apart from being ancestral one, the festival is an avenue for social interaction where people from all walks of life, residing in the area come together to plan for the year ahead.

He apologised for the inconvenience caused, especially to those who have received invitation earlier.

Activities for the celebration include a clan-up exercise, football match between Frafras and Dagabas and a tug of war.

The trophy at stake during the football match would be a dog's head.
