Accra Brewery loss pushes index down

Accra (Greater Accra) 23 January 2001

The GSE All-share index, the benchmark index of the Accra Bourse, slipped by 2.9 points on Monday, pushed down by a  whopping 70-cedi loss by Accra Brewery Limited (ABL).

A 10-cedi gain by Super Paper Products Company (SPPC) was not enough to prevent the index from declining.

The index slipped from 860.16 points to 857.18 points in a dull market, which saw most indices tumbling.

Total volumes traded were mere 8,100 shares compared to 23,900 on Friday, indicating the continued lack of investors' confidence in activities on the bourse.

Offers, however, continued to climb up, though marginally at 849,830 shares, up from 861,610 shares on Friday.

Bids were down at 158,500 compared to 244,200 shares at the previous session.

Market capitalisation fell heavily from 3,659.18 billion to 3,653.52 billion cedis,

In the broader market there were two price changes - one negative and the other positive.

ABL lost 70 cedis to close trading at 550 cedis and SPPC gained 10 cedis to close at 280 cedis.
