The French Embassy and Alliance Francaise on Tuesday organised a night of contemporary African Dance Performance at the National Theatre in Accra.

The night, which featured the Noyen group of Ghana and the Seydou Ni Salia Dance Company of Burkina Faso, formed part of a West African tour embarked upon by the Network of French Cultural Centres in the sub-region.

The two groups, in a spectacular display of artistic choreographic performance, conveyed different messages to the large audience.

The Noyen group, under the direction of Francis Nii Yartey Jnr, Artistic Director of the National Dance Company, choreographed a performance dubbed "The Fire Of Koom" which depicted man's relationship, attitude to the future and the acquisition of both spiritual and physical knowledge.

Seydou Ni Salia performed "Taagala," a traveller's dance that tells the story of the difficult circumstances under which one has to travel.

The director of Alliance Francaise, Mr Dibier Martin, said it has always been their desire to feature a Ghanaian group like Noyen African Dance on their performances to boost interest in their type of dance.
