NPP launches campaign songs

Accra (Greater Accra) 11 January 2001

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday launched the "Soundz of Positive Change", a selection of the jingles, on CDs and cassettes, used mainly in the electronic media during the campaign for election 2000.

The first CD sold for one Million CFA (9 million cedis) while the Cassette sold for 450,000 cedis.

Mrs Esther Obestebi-Lamptey, wife of the Chief of Staff at the office of the President, said the party's decision to put the jingles on sale was in response to popular request.

She said the jingles are based on the themes: "The need for positive change" and "The man J. A. Kufuor as the right man for the job of president of Ghana."

Prof. Kwame Karikari of the School of Communications Studies, University of Ghana, Legon, said it is gratifying to note that a lot of Ghanaians desire to keep these jingles adding,  "this is a clear indication of our level of literacy and our desire to keep records."

The CDs and Cassette have the NPP colours and symbols on the back covers.
