CEPS exceeds revenue target

Wa (Upper West) 03 January 2001

The Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) in the Upper West Region has exceeded its first revenue target of 59 million cedis set for it last year.

It could not however achieve the rescheduled revenue target of 152 million cedis set for it in the latter part of the year.

Mr. Daniel Adu, Chief Collector in charge of CEPS in the region, made this known at an end-of-year get-together for the staff of CEPS at Wa on Sunday.

The occasion afforded them the opportunity to reappraise their performance during the year and plan towards next year.

Mr. Adu attributed the inability of his outfit to meet the 152 million cedis target to lack of commercial activities across the borders during the latter part of the year.

The chief collector told the workers that people are always watching their operations and appealed to them to live above reproach by injecting discipline into their work to win public confidence.

He praised CEPS management in Accra for providing them with a means of transport, residential and office accommodation.

Mr. W.I.K. Akpabley, Assistant Commissioner, Headquarters, asked the CEPS personnel to work collectively to achieve maximum results and avoid indulging in wilful acts that impede the overall progress of the service.

He said management has instituted training programmes for both workers and clearing agents and urged them to take advantage of such this to upgrade their skills and knowledge.

Three awards were given to two officers in the junior and senior divisions while Hamile station was adjudged the best in the region in terms of revenue mobilisation.
