CAF officials arrive for CAN 2000

Mr Issa Hayatou, President of the African Football Confederation (CAF), and other top officials arrived in the country on Saturday morning for their congress that precedes the biennial Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Among the top officials are Farah Addo, Chairman of CAF Referees Council, and Mr Mohammed Fahmy, General Secretary of CAF.

This year's tournament, dubbed CAN 2000, which takes off from 22 January to 14 February, is being hosted by Ghana and Nigeria.

Mr Addo told newsmen at the airport that they are in the country ahead of schedule to prepare for the congress and tournament, which he expects to be very successful.

The success of the tournament would determine whether the co-hosting idea is laudable for future competitions, he added.

The CAF officials were met on arrival by the Chairman of the GFA, Alhaji Nuredeen Jawulah, and other top officials of the association.
