Cocoa farmers' get 9.6m cedis discount in PBC shares

Goaso (Brong Ahafo) 11 Jan 2000

Seventy-five thousand members of the Ghana Cocoa Coffee and Sheanut Farmers Association have been granted a total of 9.6 million cedis discount on the sale of Produce Buying Company (PBC) shares.

This was announced on Thursday by Nana Erhuma Kpanyinli VI, the National Chief Farmer, at a rally organised to sensitise farmers to patronise PBC public share offer at Goaso in the Brong Ahafo Region.

He said a total of 9.6 million shares valued at 38.6 billion cedis had been allotted to farmers, adding that farmers are to pay four hundred cedis for a share instead of the stipulated 500 cedis.

Nana Kpanyinli said the discount was in consideration of the plight of farmers by the government.

He therefore advised farmers to take advantage of the discount to buy more of the company's shares to enable them to have a say in the operations of PBC.

Nana A. Amponsah Dadzie of the National Trust Holding Company, a member of the government advisory board on the PBC public share offer, spelt out the benefits that would be derived from the purchase of the shares.

He called on district assemblies and chief farmers to educate farmers in their respective areas on the need to buy more shares.
