Promote Ghana's cultural heritage

Pokuase (Greater Accra) 18 February 2003- Nii Otto Kwame III, Chief of Pokuase in the Ga District, on Sunday urged Ghanaians to revive and promote the country's cultural heritage.

Speaking at the launching of a cultural festival at Pokuase, he said Ghanaians would be doing a great damage to the nation if they allowed the "rich" culture bequeathed to them by their ancestors, which made them unique to die.

He said the adoption of positive cultural practices would not only help in moulding the lives of the youth but would also assist in sharpening the destiny of the country. Evans Nii Oma Hunter, National Co-ordinator of Culture in the Neighbourhood, said the establishment of a frequency modulation (FM) radio station and the construction of a cultural centre at Pokuase would promote the development of the town and its surroundings.

He urged the people to support the projects to ensure their completion on schedule. Philippe Olza and Greifen Gasse were guest artistes at the function while and Mrs Diomande of the Swiss Embassy and Mr and Mrs Berthelot of Alliance Francaise were the special guests of honour.

Nii Obrempong Ankrah II, Chief of Dadebanno, who chaired the occasion called on the people to provide communal labour to ensure the early completion of the projects and commended Nii Otto Kwame for releasing land for the ventures.
