Opportunities exist to expand Ghana's insurance industry - Expert

 

Accra (Greater Accra) 12 February 2002- Tony Hobrow, chief executive of Omni Whittington, a leading insurance company in London, said opportunities existed for the company to expand and make the industry more professional in Ghana.

 

A statement issued in Accra on Monday said Mr Hobrow expressed the interest when he visited the country over the week and met with the Insurance Commissioner and senior government officials to gain an understanding of the market and its potential.

 

Omni Whittington employs around 350 people and operates in the UK, USA and the Netherlands. The company is involved in a wide range of insurance services across the life cycle including helping new businesses with their business planning and regulatory process.

Stock index barely unchanged

 

Accra (Greater Accra) 12 February 2002 - The GSE All-Share Index was barely unchanged on Monday as it went up by the barest minimum, 0.1 points in dull trading on the bourse.

 

The index, the main market gauge, ended at 961.38 points. It went up by the same margin on Friday. Change for the year remained 0.57 per cent in trading that saw only 20,900 shares changing hands compared with 92,400 shares on Friday. Ten out of the 22 listed equities traded shares.

 

Equity, Super Paper Products Company (SPPC), saw a price change - a one-cedi gain at 342 cedis. Market capitalisation was also up slightly at 3, 914.55 billion cedis from 3,914.53 billion cedis on Friday. The following are the closing prices of the equities in cedis:
