The Ghana Stock Exchange had a breather on Wednesday when gains by four equities pushed the benchmark GSE All-Share index up by 5.79 points, although bearish sentiments still prevail.
The index leapt to close mid-week trading at 867.59 points from Monday's 861.80 points. The change year to date also appreciated to stand at 1.12 per cent.
Traded volumes were up more than nine times at 280,300, propelled by an advancing Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) which sold 209,900 shares. Only four equities had negative pressure while six returned upward pressures.
For the first time in many trading sessions on the bourse, the market was demand driven .with offers outstripping demand, although marginally. Offers rose at 486,230 as against 325,010 shares on Monday.
Bids were up at 531,400 from a low of 93,300 shares.
On the broader market, there were four price changes - all positive - shared evenly between the manufacturing and banking equities.
ALW made a huge gain of 298 cedis at 5,300 cedis and GCB went up by five cedis at 1,545 cedis. SSB Bank also made 45 cedis to close at 2,125 cedis while Patterson Zochonnis was up by 100 cedis at 500.
Market capitalisation shot up at 3,673.27 billion cedis from 3,662.28 billion cedis.
