Soccer-New management board for GFA
Accra (Greater Accra) 14 February 2001
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) at its meeting on Tuesday appointed a three-member team to run the association for the next three years.
A new chairman for the Board will be later elected to head the team pending nominations by the new sports minister.
The members are Mr Emmanuel Owusu Ansah and Mr Yaw La Danso both elected by GHALCA for the positions of Vice Chairman and management member respectively.
The third member is Mr Wolanyo Agrah, the general secretary in the Jawula administration whose term of office expires on February 15 after congress.
Speaking to the GNA, Mr Y.A. Ibrahim, head of the Executive Council, also directed Alhaji Jawula's administration to stay in office and hand over to the new board after Thursday's congress.
He said the position of chairman of the Board would remain vacant until the nomination of two persons by the new sports minister for the position. One of the nominees would be elected as chairman of the GFA.
The Executive Council also appointed a three-man committee made up of Mr Kwasi Nyantekyi, Mr Fred Pappoe and Mr Oteng Atta to work out modalities involved in the purchase and establishment of new offices for the association at Cantonment.
Another committee was also formed to enquire into an alleged financial malpractice during the last African Women's Soccer Cup held in South Africa. It has Mr Richard Quarshie and Mr Jordan Anagla as members.
The Management board was asked to re-examine its relationship with Coach E. K Afranie of the Black Satellites to iron out any differences between them in the interest of a successful African Youth Cup campaign in Ethiopia this March.

Super Cup match bagged 253 million cedis
Accra (Greater Accra) 14 February
2001
Gate proceeds of the Confederation
of Africa Football (CAF) super cup match between Accra Hearts of Oak and
Zamalek Club of Egypt played at the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Sunday amounted to
253 million cedis.
The amount is one of the highest
recorded at the venue considering the fact that Hearts were playing at their
adopted home of Kumasi because of crowd violence at the Accra stadium during
the CAF Champions League final.
The amount would be shared by both
teams, CAF and the Ghana Football Association.
Hearts and Zamalek would share 50
per cent, 30 per cent to CAF and 20 to the GFA for being the host nation.

Soccer-Cape Coast
high court dismisses suit against GFA
Cape Coast (Central Region) 14
February 2001
A Cape Coast high court presided
over by Mrs Justice Iris Heward-Mills on Tuesday, dismissed a writ filed by
Messrs Edumadzi Essuman and Edumadzi Essuman Amanfo, two supporters of Cape
Coast Mysterious Dwarfs for a perpetual injunction restraining the Ghana
Football Association (GFA), the National Sports council (Cape Coast), their
agents and servants, from
organising any play-off matches for qualification into the ABC Premier League.
The court also awarded a cost of
500,000 cedis against the plaintiffs.
In their writ, the two men asked
the court to order a replay of the RTU-Dwarfs match played at Tamale on August
23 last year on a neutral ground.
The dismissal of the case followed
a motion and arguments advanced by Mr Tanko Amadu, counsel for the GFA , asking
the court to strike out the case because the plaintiffs have no legal basis to
sue the Association.
This is because the plaintiffs are
not a party to the contract of engagement between the GFA and the Club.
According to Mr Amadu, the action
by the plaintiffs does also not disclose any reasonable action, especially in
view of the fact that Dwarfs has written a letter to the GFA indicating that
the club does not support the action of the plaintiffs.
Speaking to the GNA later, Mr
Amadu said with the dismissal of the case, the GFA can now organise the
play-off match between Power F/C and Adansiman Club, and for the 2001 Premier
Division League to take off.
The plaintiffs were represented by
Mr Atto Mills-Graves, a Cape Coast based legal practitioner.
