Hewlett Packard to provide Africa special price list

Accra (Greater Accra) 03 February 2001

Hewlett Packard (HP), a computer manufacturing company, on Tuesday said it would soon introduce a special price list for customers in Africa to check the illegal marketing of its computers manufactured for use in other continents.

Mr. Thierry Boulanger, Market Development Manager, said HP computers are manufactured to meet certain conditions in each continent.

However, most computers made for Europe find their way into the African region and subsequently back to dealers for repairs after they develop faults.

The introduction of the price list will be linked with the supply chain to control the illegal marketing of computers made for different regions in Africa.

At a media encounter in Accra to introduce the company's new global strategy for computer services, Mr Boulanger said HP would prioritise e-services, infrastructure and information appliance based on partnership in countries of operation.

Africa will be divided into Anglophone and Francophone regions for effective management.

A team has been set up to focus on special needs of the region. Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Bostwana and Mauritius will be the first five countries to benefit from a market to be  opened up for HP's new programmes.
