Akim Kotoku Traditional Area marks Odwira festival

The Benkumhene of the Akim Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Sintim Poku the third, has called for concerted efforts from chiefs, assembly and unit committee members to educate the people on the importance of the forth-coming population and housing census.

"There is the urgent need for awareness to be created among the people especially those in the rural communities for them to appreciate that the census is meant for effective planning and not for taxation purposes".

Obrempong Poku who is also the chief of Akim Manso in the Birim South District was speaking at a durbar of chiefs and people of Akim Manso on Thursday to mark their annual Odwira festival.

He appealed to non-residents and settler farmers not to leave for their hometowns to be counted because doing so will defeat the purpose of the exercise.

On education, the Benkumhene called on parents to send their children to school to enable them acquire the necessary knowledge and functional skills.
