Ghana to host African Netball Cup of Nations

Accra (Greater Accra), 16 February 2000

The Confederation of Africa Netball Association has mandated Ghana to host the next Africa Netball Cup of Nations in 2001.

The decision was taken by the confederation at its annual general meeting at Johannesburg, South Africa recently.

Mr. E. D. Nikoi, Chairman of the Netball Association of Ghana (NAG) told the GNA in Accra on Tuesday that over 16 countries are expected to participate in the three-week tournament.

He said Ghana has been designated as the headquarters of Zone Three of the Africa Netball Confederation.

The chairman and the general Secretary of NAG Mr. Nikoi and Mr Saka Acquaye are, therefore, the President and Secretary General of the Zone respectively.

Ghana has also been tasked by the Confederation to help revive netball in the three English speaking members of the zone, namely Nigeria, Sierra Leone and The Gambia.

He added that efforts are also being made to extend the game to the Franco-phone countries in West Africa.
