SAMUEL TO STAR AS THE NEW SHAFT
A REMAKE of the hit '70s movie Shaft is on the way -with Hollywood's hottest black actor Samuel L Jackson in the title role.
Jackson, already famous for Pulp Fiction and the new Star Wars film, is in final negotiations for the part of leather-clad New York detective John Shaft.
In the 1971 version, which had an Oscar-winning sexy soundtrack by Isaac Hayes, the hero was played by Richard Roundtree.
Jackson, 50, beat off Wesley Snipes to replace him.
He said: "I love the original. This should be a cool thing to do almost 30 years later.
"The film will hopefully have the hipness of the original."

POP diva Madonna and Britain's Amanda Donahoe looked pretty pleased with themselves as they rubbed shoulders with Vinnie Jones in Hollywood.
The singer and the American-based TV star were at a bash to mark the US premiere of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, which features Vinnie as a London gangland enforcer.
The footballer-turned-actor was happy, too. With his movie already a big hit in the UK - and poised for more success on its release at cinemas all over America - he has caught the eye of Tinseltown's talent scouts.
He said: "I've always loved films, especially big Hollywood action movies.
"I'd love to get a role in a film with Clint Eastwood, Bruce Willis or Arnold Schwarzenegger.
