Clubs advised to channel properly "home-take-all" grievances

Accra (Greater Accra) 24 December 2001 - Mr J.Y. Appiah, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), on Friday advised clubs to channel all grievances on the "home-take-all" policy to the appropriate quarters rather than going to the media.

Speaking at the Association's annual congress, the chairman said, even though, some members had complained of the adverse effect of the policy, their problems would be well addressed if there were sent to the right quarters.

Mr Appiah said during the year under review, the association enjoyed a very healthy partnership with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), National Sports Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) and told the members that they would never compromise on any of their principles to maintain this friendship.

On the issuance of complimentary cards for the Accra and Kumasi Sports Stadiums, an issue that generated a lot of controversy between them and NSC, he told the meeting that they were still not satisfied with the agreement reached and expressed the hope to meet and resolve loopholes in the agreement before the new football season gets started.

Mr Appiah said one thorny area that the association would tackle in the coming year would be the transfer of players since although being a major income earner for the association was fraught with a lot of problems like undercutting of figures and total silence on some transfers under the pretence of players being given on loan.

He cautioned members, who indulged in such activities, to desist from it as early as possible to avoid embarrassment.

He congratulated Accra Hearts of Oaks for winning the league for the unprecedented fifth time and Kumasi Asanti Kotoko for annexing the FA Cup and expressed the hope that both teams would win continental honours in their respective continental assignments in 2002.
