Soccer- Faisal's recent rise is due to Coach Edusei

Accra (Greater Accra) 13 December 2000

The recent meteoric rise in the fortunes of Kumasi based King Faisal has been attributed to the presence of Coach Edusei who has instilled a new sense of discipline, confidence and dedication into the playing body.

In an interview, Alhaji Karim Grunsah, the owner of the club, said his team, which is a mixture of experienced and young players is also well motivated and the players are desirous to go the extra mile for the club.

King Faisal would participate in next year's WAFU cup by virtue of being third in the just ended ABC Premier League.

Alhaji Grunsah said contrary to news making rounds that he is about to sell some of his players to other teams, he is not selling any of his players because he want to make a good impact in their club's first continental assignment.

"Any player who has run out of contract and would like to move elsewhere would not be prevented but I will make sure that I do my possible best to convince him to stay".

Alhaji Grunsah said his team's plans for next season would not be different from what has been happening over the years saying " I have plans to recruit young talented players from the lower leagues to fill the places of few player who would be out of contract and would like to leave.

He gave a thumb up to the way that last years league was organised but said few incidence of bad officiating and crowd violence threatened to mar the season.

On next Sunday's CAF cup final match between Ghanaian champions, Accra Hearts of Oak and Tunisia's Esperance, Alhaji Grunsah said he predicted some time ago that Accra Hearts of Oak would win this year Champion league and still stands by that.

He however urged Accra Hearts of Oak not to rest on their oars to think that everything has been sown up.

He said the Tunisians would be coming to Accra with nothing on their mind than revenge.

Soccer- Fiasal would not go to WAFU if - Alhaji Grunsah

Accra (Greater Accra) 13 December 2000

Ghana's next year's WAFU campaigners, King Fiasal, would withdraw from the competition if plans to secure sponsorship from outside do not materialise.

Speaking to the GNA, Alhaji Karim Grunsah, the enigmatic owner of the club, said without such a sponsorship, a small club like King Fiasal with its scanty followings would hardly be able to sustain the club through such money demanding exercise and hence would be left with no other alternative than to pull out.

"At the moment we are talking with some of our European partners and also the sons of the late King Fiasal of Saudi Arabia, who the club was named after to see what kind of help they can offer us to sustain us in a successful campaign".

The Kumasi based club placed third in the just ended 2000 ABC Premier League, its highest placing since joining the elite of Ghana soccer some, five years ago.

"At the moment we have started receiving some favourable feedback from some of our partners but nothing concrete has yet been concluded since most of the talks are at the initial stages".

Asked why he is not after any local sponsorship, Alhaji said it is very difficult if not impossible for a small club like mine to get some sponsorship since most companies in the country are only interested in the big clubs like Hearts and Kotoko.

He said if all things go as planned, King Fiasal would enter the competition to win the cup, saying, " I do not believe in entering any competition just for the sake of participation."

On his chances in the upcoming Ghalca elections in which he is contesting for the post of vice chairman, a position which makes him automatically the second in command of the Ghana football Association (GFA).

Alhaji Grunsah said he entered the fold with a 50-50 chance just like all the other competitors but hopes to win because his curriculum vitae in football development in the country can be matched by a few.

Moyoyo wants African cruiserweight title fight

Accra (Greater Accra) 13 December 2000

Aloyi Moyoyo, Ghana's topmost heavyweight boxer said he is prepared to challenge anybody for the African cruiserweight title.

Speaking to the GNA Sports on Tuesday, Moyoyo said he is indeed a cruiserweight, but has been fighting as a heavyweight because of lack of opponents in the lower division.

He said after two professional fights in the heavyweight division where he kayoed his opponents, he is sure to annex the African cruiserweight title if offered the opportunity.

"I have fought with heavier boxers and knocked them out and I don't see any reason why a cruiserweight on the African continent could pose any threat to me", he said.

He admitted he might not be an artistic boxer but added that his asset is the power he has in both hands, which has sent his opponents to retire early in his previous fights.

"All I want is a promoter to match me against the African champion and the title will come to Ghana".

Moyoyo said he is a disciplined boxer but unfortunately he has no manager and called on interested managers to sign him on to ease the various problems he encounters while preparing for fights.

Aloyi Moyoyo knocked out Ibrahim Marshall in the first round in his professional debut and stopped Joe Addo in the fourth round in his second fight.

His defeat of Addo nearly resulted in a ring disaster, as the bigger and taller Addo was knocked down unconscious and regained consciousness after two ringside doctors had worked on him for well over 30 minutes.
