the powerful long shots of their lead marksman Alex Asare to beat perennial
rivals Prisons 23- 20 in a very physical opening match.
In their second match, Police
called off the bluff of Fire Service who had sworn victory before the game 32 -

Prisons Service the host-team,
placed second and took home a cash prize of
700,000 after defeating Fire

celebration as the Inspector General of Police, Mr Peter Nafuri and Mr Gyamena
Tawiah, Vice chairman of the National Sports Council Board added one Million
and 200,000 cedis respectively to their winning prize.
The tournament was organised by
the Handball Association of Ghana (HAG) in an effort to keep players of
security services busy, since tournaments like the SESSA games that is used to
unearth talents for the game has been suspended for some time now.
In an interview, the IGP, said he
gave the money because he was impressed with the standard of play of the three teams
and think the huge cash prize would serve as an incentive for the young ones
who are coming through in the sport.
Closing the tournament, Colonel
George Brock, Acting Chief Executive of the National Sports Council expressed
his appreciation for the high level of skills shown by participating teams and
urged the players not to rest on their oars, but rather continue to take
opportunity of such tournaments to enhance and sharpen their knowledge of the
game.
He expressed his willingness to
see that this tournament becomes an annual programme that would involve other
security agencies to join in the development of the game, which holds a lot of
prospects for the nation.
