Businessman sues DHL for breach of contract

Kumasi (Ashanti), 16th December 99

Mr. Oduro Karikari, a Kumasi businessman, has filed a writ at a Kumasi High Court against DHL Ghana Limited for an order for the payment of 10,000 dollars to him.

The money is the value of a parcel containing travellers Cheques sent to a company in Valencia, Spain on August six, this year by Mr Karikari but which was never delivered.

The writ, filed for Mr Karikari by Mr Egblogbe Anaglate, a Kumasi-based lawyer, prayed the court for interest at the prevailing commercial bank rate up to the date of payment and damages for breach of contract.

In a statement of claim, Mr Karikari said on August six, this year, he handed over to the Kumasi Office of the DHL, a parcel containing travellers cheques valued at 10,000 dollars for delivery to a company in Valencia, Spain.

It said in spite of the fact that Mr Karikari paid to DHL the full cost of delivery of the parcel, it was never delivered to the company and when this came to his notice, he complained to the management of DHL.

The statement said Mr. Karikari through his solicitor, wrote to the DHL Ghana Limited to demand re-imbursement for the loss and instead of re-imbursement, "DHL have rather put me through the frustration of 'go and come' syndrome".
