Ghana Telecom introduces new products

Accra (Greater Accra), 10th December 99

Ghana Telecom (GT), has introduced three new products at the ongoing four-day "Tomorrow's World" exhibition in Accra.

The products which would be launched early next year, include videophones, analogue claims and a device called IS Dterm 3010.

In an interview, Mr. Thomas A. Quarcoopome, Product Development and Marketing Director of GT, said the videophones which sell for 300 dollars each, captures the images of both a caller and a receiver provided they both have videophones.

He said the analogue claim, when connected to a telephone, is able to keep record of phone numbers of all calls received in ones absence, adding that the IS Dterm 3010 is a terminal which allows one telephone to be used for eight purposes at a time.

Mr. Quarcoopome explained that eight IS Dterm 3010 terminals could be connected to a single telephone "and eight different people could either call or receive calls on the same number without interrupting each other".

He said the device, which operates on Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN), could also be connected to a personal computer for data network purposes, including access to the internet, without necessarily detaining the telephone line "since there are other IS Dterm 3010 terminals on the same line".

Mr. Quarcoopome said the IS Dterm 3010, which currently sells for 5,000 dollars, enables fault to be detected automatically by the service providers, since it is digital and has a mechanism that makes its daily monitoring very easy.

"We would soon launch and put these products on the market, hopefully at a cheaper rate than they are now".

He reminded the public that GT would also launch its GSM mobile phone services early next year

Mr. Quarcoopome said GT is currently running a millennium bonanza, which offers a 75 per cent discount on every new GT telephone installed between now December 25.
