Kotoko clash with RTU in 24th Week top-liner

GRi's Evans Owusu previous ABC/Premier league fixtures

The ABC premier league enters the 24th week on Sunday, 22nd August with the action spot switching to the Tamale Kaladan park where Real Tamale United faces Kumasi Asante Kotoko in top-of-the-week encounter.

Second placed Kotoko, with 40 points, need the maximum three points at stake to consolidate their one point lead over Goldfields and Hasaacas who are waiting for a possible slip. Against RTU whose 36 points place them within medal zone, Kotoko’s Prince Adu Poku, Baba Armando Adams and speedster Robert Boateng would have to play above themselves to render dimunitive George Oduro in mid-field for the Tamale boys inoperative, or return to Kumasi finger-licking. A draw is most likely.

Next in attraction will be the Kumasi Sports Stadium where Obuasi Goldfields will play as guests of King Faisal. While Goldfields want a win to dislodge Kotoko from the second spot, Alhaji Grunsah’s King Faisal need a breathe of life to make them stay away from relegation. Faisal has an edge but trust the miners to fight for a draw.

Okwawu United travel to Sekondi to lock horns with Hasaacas in a match that favours the Sekondi lads while All Blacks are tipped to tame Liberty Professionals at Swedru. Accra Great Olympics, after their 1-1 draw with Kotoko last Sunday, should be able to send Afienya United packing to relegation with a massive win when they meet in Accra on Sunday. The striking instincts of good old Ben Kusi should help Bofoakwa Tano grab the three points at stake against Power F/C in their clash at Sunyani with Ghapoha likely to shock Ebusua Dwarfs at Tema.

The match between defending champions and league leaders Accra Hearts of Oak and Dawu Youngsters at Dawu has been postponed to enable Hearts to honour their African Clubs Champions League duel against Raja Casablanca of Morocco on Friday 20th August in Casablanca.
