Labourer jailed 15 years for defilement

A 25-year old farm labourer of Gambia Number Two in the Asutifi district of Brong Ahafo region who defiled a six- year- old girl has been sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment in hard labour by a Goaso high court.
Yaw George pleaded guilty.
The presiding judge, Mr Justice Paul Gyaesayor, expressed concern over the high rate of defilement cases in the Asunafo district and hoped that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Bawa Adam told the court that on August three this year, Yaw invited the victim to his room at about 8.30 pm for a piece of bread but as soon the girl entered the room he grabbed her and sexually abused her.
Inspector Adam said the screams of the victim attracted a ‘Good Samaritan’ who forced his way into the room of the accused to rescue her.
A report was made to the police who arrested Yaw.
