Soccer--Mobitel to sponsor Asante Kotoko

Millicom Ghana Ltd, Mobitel, cellular phone service providers is to sponsor Kumasi Asante Kotoko football club to the tune of 234 million cedis.

The sponsorship package, which is renewable after 18 months, is made up of 150 million cedis and sports kit and logistics worth 84 million cedis.

Mr Phil Dunglinson, Managing Director of Mobitel Ghana, said at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday that his company decided to be the major sponsor of Asante Kotoko as means of taking advantage of the economic potential of the Ashanti region.

He said his company's association with Kotoko, therefore, gives Mobitel a chance to help the club to maximise the potentials of some of the new initiatives being implemented by the club's new management .

Mr Dunglinson said, "Star Call" Mobitel's prepaid service would be the brand associated with Asante Kotoko adding that the "Star Call" logo would be displayed prominently on Kotoko's kit at all matches.

He said Kotoko and Mobitel would undertake joint promotional activities adding that with total commitment, trust and understanding both would enjoy a highly successful relationship for many years to come.

Mr Herbert Mensah, Chairman of Asante Kotoko thanked Mobitel for the sponsorship and said the management of Mobitel would serve on the Kotoko's Board for transparency.
