Blend sports with academic work: Regional
Minister
Sunyani (Brong Ahafo Region) 26 April 2001
Mr Ernest Debrah, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister has urged the Physical Education (PE) unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that sporting activities do not over-ride the teaching of other subjects in the schools and colleges.
He made the remarks at a reception organised by the Brong Ahafo Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) for GES directors and officials at this year's National Under-12 Milo Soccer Championship currently going on in Sunyani.
The Minister, who watched the opening match of the competition involving Brong Ahafo and Western Region, could not hide his feelings about the high standard of play.
He, however, appealed to the organisers to ensure that the players do not let soccer to overshadow their normal academic work.
Mr J.O. Pobee, National Vice-Chairman of Schools and Colleges Sports Federation, thanked the Regional Minister for the reception and promised that his outfit would continue to blend sports with classroom work.
Present included Mr J.A. Awuah, Brong Ahafo Regional Director of GES.
