Breman Odoben (Central Region) 20 April 2001
The Nyakrom Rural Bank on Wednesday launched a Susu savings and credit scheme aimed at reaching out to the informal lower income sector of the economy.
The scheme would be conducted through the provision of daily savings and credit services at the doorsteps of customers.
The introduction of the scheme will also go along way to improve on the bank's operational effectiveness.
Mr John Antwi Boateng, Technical Adviser, said the second phase of the scheme covering Nyakrom and Odoben would, however, begin this month.
The first phase, which was launched at Agona Swedru last year, yielded 16 million cedis after six months of its operation.
Mr Boateng said that, within that period, the scheme had about 1,400 customers and, based on this positive start, the bank collected a total of 300 million cedis as savings towards the scheme.
