Accra (Greater Accra) 26 April 2000

The Greater Accra Hockey Association (GAHA) will benefit from a 30-million cedi package this season under a five year

Agreement reached between and Beverages Investment Ghana (BIG), producers of Pepsi Cola, on Wednesday.

Mr. Charles Boakye Nimako, Marketing Director of BIG, said the company deems it essential to do something radical to divert the focus from the popular sport, football, by helping to develop other lesser sports.  “This is why we have decided to go with the lesser sports that are yet to see the light”, he said.

Mr. Nimako expressed the hope that his company’s association with hockey would help revive and bring it to the doorsteps of more Ghanaians.

He called on the authorities controlling hockey in the country to make it more exciting and to help unearth more talents among the youth.

The Chairman of the Ghana Hockey Association, Mr. Oko-Nikoi Dzani reiterated the need to tap the resources of the numerous hockey potentials existing in the country.

Hockey, he said, can take the country to places and called on corporate bodies in the country to help raise the standard of the game by adopting some of the teams in the league.
