The Techiman circuit tribunal on Friday remanded a 36 year-old tinker at Kintampo in custody for allegedly defiling five children aged between 11 and 13.

The tribunal, chaired by Mr Justice Nicholas Abodakpi, ordered Christopher Adjei, alias "Wayire", who pleaded not guilty, to re-appear on 10 April. According to the prosecution, on 13 October 1998, the five girls visited the accused in his shop where he allegedly defiled them in turns.

Mr Yendaw said the accused then gave each of them a cake of lux soap and 1,000 cedis to share, but for fear of being exposed they later returned the gifts to Adjei. One of the victims however broke the news to one Madam Fati Abdulai, who reported to the Police.

When the girls were examined at the Techiman Government Hospital, it was found out that they had been defiled.

In another development Abubakari Dauda, 26, who was found guilty of defiling a nine-year old girl has been sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment in hard labour by the Techiman circuit tribunal, chaired by Mr Justice Nicholas Abodakpi.

He pleaded not guilty. Passing sentence, Mr Justice Abodakpi expressed the hope that the accused would be reformed after serving the prison term.
